In a recent study, only 48 percent of Americans reported feeling sexually satisfied.

What are Americans getting wrong about sex?

A recent article published in the Huffington Post examines some of the key problems that plague Americans when it comes to our sexual health and well-being. Here's a look at some of the issues illustrated by the source:

  • Our healthcare system ignores sexual health – Did you know that America has the highest rate of sexually transmitted disease in the industrialized world? Furthermore, the news outlet reveals that the United States has some of the lowest integration of sexual and reproductive health services and primary health care across the globe.
  • We aren't very good at it – A recent survey conducted by Durex indicates that only 48 percent of Americans are fully satisfied with their sex lives. This may be one of the reasons why Americans have sex an average of 85 times per year—below the global average of 103.
  • We pretend it doesn't exist – "Certainly, children should not be exposed to sexually explicit material, and it is perfectly reasonable for industries […] to help parents minimize this exposure. And any individual is free to believe what he or she wants about sex, morality and the relationship between the two," reports the source. "But problems arise when we censor sexuality to the point that we teach our children to be ashamed of said sexuality."

Of course, there's no reason you can't get sex absolutely right between you and your partner.
