Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar offer their advice for a healthy relationship.

3 celebrity tips for a healthy relationship

Even if you have never seen the TLC show "19 Kids and Counting", you have very likely heard of the Duggar family. The parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, certainly know a thing or two about how to reignite their love lives – both in the bedroom and outside of it – after having children. While speaking on the Today Show, the happy couple offered their advice for maintaining a strong connection with your significant other even after becoming parents.

Here are a few of the Duggars' most helpful suggestions:

  • Be emotionally open: "He shares his heart with me, his struggles, his fears and his dreams," Michelle told the Today Show. "Many men would not do that, but God's word says that before honor comes humility. When he learns to humble himself before God and me, it builds him up so much in my eyes."
  • Cherish each other: Although it is all too easy to forget this point, especially if you have been together for awhile, it is important that you and your partner let the other know how special they are. It does not always have to be big romantic gestures – little things like a kiss goodbye in the morning or a hug when you walk in the door – are just as effective.
  • Don't always expect the best: After being together for so long, and through so many children, the Duggars know that you are not always going to be at your best for the other person. Jim Bob and Michelle believe in leaving space for the other person, so any small disagreement does not blow up into a major argument. Conflict in relationships is inevitable and should be managed, not avoided.
