The worst offenders when it comes to GMOs

If you tend to seek out organic foods, chances are you are also familiar with the term "GMO." This term refers to genetically modified organisms, and though it is not yet mandatory for food manufacturers to identify these goods, American consciousness of these practices is definitely growing. 

If you're interested in cutting out GMOs from your diet, it helps to know about the most likely culprits to watch out for. Recently, The Huffington Post singled out some of the worst offenders when it comes to genetic modification, so keep your eyes peeled for "GMO-Free" stickers the next time you head to the grocery store for these goods:

Corn – The source reports that most corn sold in the United States is modified to some degree – and that includes the kernels used to make your favorite breakfast cereals. 

Milk – Previously on this blog, we mentioned what the label "organic" really means when it comes to dairy. When it comes to genetic modification, the most common practice is to administer bovine growth hormones to cows to make them produce more milk. 

Soy – Once a mainstay for vegetarians and vegans in particular, soy has become a bit more controversial in recent years. Genetically modified soybeans, including those produced by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, have been altered to include healthy fats that may counter lower cholesterol. 

Whatever your stance on genetic modification of food, it is still your right to know exactly what you are consuming. The same is true for any household products that come directly into contact with your skin. When it comes to sex aids, for example, why risk exposure to harsh chemicals when you can enhance your pleasure with all natural lubricants?
