Who knew that sexual intimacy could boost your brain power?

Study shows sex may actually bolster your brain

Unless you indulge in some fairly elaborate role play, it's safe to say that intellectual stimulation is the last thing on your mind when things get hot and heavy with your partner. Heck, even choosing between your favorite female lubricants can prove a bit taxing in the heat of the moment! However, scientists have recently discovered that the very act of sexual intimacy may stimulate your brain as well as your body.

As The Atlantic recently reported, researchers from the University of Maryland and Konkuk University in Seoul, South Korea, conducted two separate investigations into the effects of sex on the brain. They found that engaging in a sexual encounter may bolster brain power for a full 24 hours after the act itself. Plus, this stimulation may even counter some of the most damaging effects of stress, particularly memory loss.

"Sexual interaction could be helpful for buffering adult hippocampal neurogenesis and recognition memory function against the suppressive actions of chronic stress," the Korean researchers concluded in their report.

We all know that a bit of recreation between the sheets is a great way to let off some steam after a long, draining day at the office, but who knew it might actually help our brains work better? Further research may be needed to confirm these eye-opening findings, but you can certainly have a lot of fun in the meantime! To make the most of your next intimate encounter physically and mentally, consider introducing a warming lubricant or natural massage oil
